The featured speaker will be Dr. Nathaniel Whitaker, Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  To quote from Professor Whitaker's website, "Professor Whitaker's recent research involves problems in math biology such as the growth of tumors."  His interests include the larger welfare of students.  Professor Whitaker supervised the thesis of the first African-American to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Massachusetts, and he was part of a 9-year program called AIMS, which involved teaching accelerated math to African-American students in the Amherst school system.
